A building in harmony with its history and landscape.

Thuja was my senior capstone project. It is located on the Bloedel Reserve, a garden and estate for public appreciation. Its forest, gardens and building are without question beautiful to behold. And is that enough? The Bloedel Reserve celebrates the lives and history of people, my great-grandparents, who donated the land back to public but makes no mention of the Suquamish winter site it displaced in the beginning. At present, our architecture and land-use has a moral obligation to present a more complicated, more accurate narrative of our history. This project, though truncated by the outbreak of COVID-19, includes both physical and digital proficiencies.
